Description of the course
This is a 5-day practical multidisciplinary course on hand rehabilitation. Some part of the course will have a strong rehabilitation perspective while others are dealing with surgical aspects of the hand. The course is organised by Prof. Dr. Henk J. Stam, Head of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Erasmus MC Rotterdam) and President of the European Society for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, in co-operation with VitalMed Bodrum.
Topics include
Anatomy, Examination of the hand, Dupuytren’s disease, Extensors, Flexors, Tenolysis, Rheumatic hand, Burns, Fractures, Spastic hand, RSI, Multi trauma, Replantation, Wound healing, Tendon transfers, Congenital anomalies, nerve injuries, vessel and nerve entrapments, soft tissue injuries, sympathetic reflex dystrophy, replantation and functional tendon transfer.

Abstracts
Abstracts reflecting personal opinions, research and experiences on the treatment of the hand are called for. The deadline for submission of abstracts is 1st October 2007. Abstracts will be accepted by e-mail (vitalmed@vitalmedbodrum.com) as attachment in MS word-format, not exceeding half an A4 page, written in 11 points Arial font including sections such as title, authors, introduction, materials and methods, results, conclusions and relevance.
Lecturers
The lecturers are well-known specialists in the field of the hand from the Hand Therapy Group of the Erasmus MC (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) as well as from other European Universities and from Universities in Turkey. The list includes Prof. Dr. Henk J. Stam, Prof. Dr. Steven E.R. Hovius (Past President of the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand), Ton A.R. Schreuders (PT, PhD), G. van Strien (MSc).
Target audience
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation doctors, Plastic-, Hand- as well as Orthopaedic Surgeons, Orthopaedists, Physio Therapists, Occupational Therapists and other allied health professionals with an interest in the hand.
Accreditation
Accreditation has been obtained for earlier hand courses, from the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCM) and has been applied for in respect of the 5th Course (26 points obtained in 2005)
Course venue
Bodrum is a well-known holiday resort at the sunny southwest coast of Turkey. Low white buildings, a bright blue sea and green mountains are typical for the town of Bodrum. Bodrum is also the starting point of numerous daytrips to historical places as well as places of natural beauty. The congress hotel is located near the centre of Bodrum.
Certificate
A certificate of attendance will be issued to all participants.
